Baseball & Softball Performance Testing in Portland
The testing trusted by the pros, now for your baseball or softball player.
APEX PWR uses the same VALD force plates and speed gates used by MLB clubs, including the Houston Astros, to test, train and develop youth and high-school baseball and softball players across the Portland metro. Speed, power, arm care and injury prevention, all under one roof in Tigard.
The same VALD technology trusted across pro and college baseball

Why it matters for baseball & softball
The game is won in the details.
Baseball and softball reward players who are explosive, fast and durable, especially the throwing arm. Every one of those qualities can be measured, and trained, at our Tigard facility serving the Portland area.
Speed & explosiveness
Home-to-first and the first step. We clock speed on VALD gates and explosive power on the force plates.
Rotational power & force
Power comes from the ground up. We measure lower-body force with the isometric mid-thigh pull.
Arm & shoulder care
The throwing arm carries the load. We screen shoulder strength and balance on VALD equipment.
Hamstring & lower half
Sprints and cuts strain the hamstrings. VALD equipment screens strength and balance before they pull up.
Speed & power, measured
Baseball speed & power, on real numbers.
We measure home-to-first and 60-yard speed on VALD speed gates, and explosive power and lower-body force on the force plates and isometric mid-thigh pull. The full VALD suite lives in one 10,000 sq ft facility, alongside our physical therapy team.
Speed Gates
Acceleration, top speed and split times, measured to the hundredth of a second.
Force Plates
How much force each leg produces, brakes and absorbs through a jump and landing.
Strength & balance
Hip, groin and hamstring strength and left-to-right balance, screened in minutes.
Targeted strength
Joint and muscle strength testing for precise, objective milestones.
The assessment is where we start, not where we stop. From the results, your athlete trains with our coaches in small semi-private groups on a plan built from their own numbers. Off-season we build the foundation. In-season we maintain it and manage load so they stay fast and healthy through the schedule. We retest each quarter so progress shows up in real numbers, then adjust as your athlete develops.
Off-season: build
Lower-body power, rotational strength and speed blocks to build the engine before the season.
In-season: maintain
Strength and speed maintenance with shoulder care and load management through a long schedule.
Speed training
Home-to-first and first-step speed, coached against your athlete's gate numbers to beat throws and steal bases.
Strength training
Rotational power plus shoulder strength and balance that protects the throwing arm, progressed for the developing athlete.
Training starts with a Sports Science Assessment so we build the right plan from real data.
The throwing arm and the hamstrings carry the load in baseball and softball. We screen shoulder, hamstring, hip and groin strength and balance on VALD equipment, then build the strength that keeps your athlete on the field. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, prevention is in our DNA and we have the data to highlight normal standards for your baseball and softball athlete.

ACL tear prevention & return-to-play
Arm care, ACL prevention and a confident return.
Throwing volume and explosive cuts put the shoulder, elbow and knee at risk. We test the strength and balance that lower that risk, and after an injury we map return-to-play to objective milestones, not just a date on the calendar. Your athlete returns when the numbers say they are ready.
Families across Portland, Tigard and Beaverton train at APEX because the data, the coaching and the physical therapy live in the same place, on the same systems the world's best clubs trust. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, we prioritize age & development appropriate strength training and enhancing movement quality for baseball and softball players ages 8 to 18.
