Football Performance Testing & Training in Portland
The testing trusted by the pros, now for your football player.
APEX PWR uses the same VALD force plates and speed gates as all 30 NFL teams and NCAA Division I programs to test, train and develop youth and high-school players across the Portland metro. Speed, power, strength and injury prevention, all under one roof in Tigard.
The same VALD technology trusted across the NFL and NCAA

Why it matters for football
The game is won in the details.
Football rewards players who are faster, more explosive, and harder to break. Every one of those qualities can be measured, and trained, at our Tigard facility serving the Portland area.
Speed & explosiveness
The 40, the 10-yard split, the first step. We clock speed on VALD gates and explosive power on the force plates.
Force & strength
Line play is won with force. We measure how much each athlete produces with the isometric mid-thigh pull on force plates.
Hamstring & soft-tissue
Hamstring strains are football's most common injury. VALD equipment screens strength and balance before they pull up.
Knee, ACL & landing
Cuts and collisions load the knee. We test how each leg absorbs and controls force, key for prevention and return-to-play.
Combine speed & power, measured
Football speed & power, on real numbers.
We measure the 40-yard dash and split times on VALD speed gates, and explosive power and force on the force plates and isometric mid-thigh pull. The full VALD suite lives in one 10,000 sq ft facility, alongside our physical therapy team.
Speed Gates
Acceleration, top speed and split times, measured to the hundredth of a second.
Force Plates
How much force each leg produces, brakes and absorbs through a jump and landing.
Strength & balance
Hip, groin and hamstring strength and left-to-right balance, screened in minutes.
Targeted strength
Joint and muscle strength testing for precise, objective milestones.
Football training in Portland
Football speed & strength training, year-round.
The assessment is where we start, not where we stop. From the results, your athlete trains with our coaches in small semi-private groups on a plan built from their own numbers. Off-season we build the foundation. In-season we maintain it and manage load so they stay fast and healthy through the schedule. We retest each quarter so progress shows up in real numbers, then adjust as your athlete develops.
Off-season: build
Max-strength and power blocks plus top-end speed work to raise force output for the 40 and the contact positions.
In-season: maintain
Strength and speed maintenance with load and soft-tissue management through the grind of the season.
Speed training
40-yard speed, 10-yard starts and acceleration, coached against your athlete's gate numbers for first-step explosiveness.
Strength training
Hamstring, hip and full-body strength that handles contact and lowers soft-tissue injury risk, scaled to age and stage.
Training starts with a Sports Science Assessment so we build the right plan from real data.
Hamstring strains are the most common injury in football, and the knee takes a pounding. We screen hamstring, hip and groin strength and balance on VALD equipment, and how each leg absorbs landing on the force plates, then build the strength that protects your athlete. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, prevention is in our DNA and we have the data to highlight normal standards for your football athlete.
01
Book a call
We talk about your athlete, their sport, their season and what you want to build.
02
Sports Science Assessment
The first of two sessions: Testing with VALD equipment that's sport and athlete specific to develop objective markers.
03
Experience the training
The second of two sessions: A structured series of foundational strength movements to evaluate experience level, movement quality, and readiness to load.
04
Consultation
We walk through the results, your athlete's custom plan, and the options for continued training and/or physical therapy.
05
Train, retest, progress
Execute the plan and retest quarterly. Gains show up in real numbers, not guesses.
The Sports Science Assessment is the first step. From there, semi-private memberships are built around your athlete's goals and schedule. We walk through pricing and options together on a quick first call, with no hard sell.
ACL tear prevention & return-to-play
ACL tear prevention for football, and a confident return.
Football's cuts, collisions and decelerations put the knee at risk. We test the strength and landing mechanics that lower that risk, and after an injury we map return-to-play to objective milestones on the force plates, not just a date on the calendar. Your athlete returns when the numbers say they are ready.
Families across Portland, Tigard and Beaverton train at APEX because the data, the coaching and the physical therapy live in the same place, on the same systems the world's best clubs trust. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, we prioritize age & development appropriate strength training and enhancing movement quality for football players ages 8 to 18.
Where can my football player get tested in Portland?
At APEX PWR in Tigard, minutes from Portland and Beaverton. Every athlete starts with a Sports Science Assessment on VALD force plates and speed gates, the same technology used by all 30 NFL teams and NCAA Division I programs, plus a full movement and strength evaluation. We work with players ages 8 to 18.
Do you offer combine and 40-yard dash training?
Yes. We measure the 40-yard dash and split times on VALD speed gates and explosive power on the force plates, then train the acceleration and force production that show up on combine day and on the field.
How do you help with football injury prevention and ACL tears?
Hamstring strains are football's most common injury, and the knee takes a pounding. We screen hamstring, hip and groin strength and balance on VALD equipment, and how each leg absorbs landing on the force plates, then build the strength and control that lower injury risk.
Do you offer strength training for football players?
Yes. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, we prioritize age & development appropriate strength training in a semi-private setting for athletes 8 to 18. If your athlete is dealing with an injury or in post-surgical rehab, our physical therapy team also prioritizes strength training throughout the rehab plan.
How does pricing work?
The Sports Science Assessment is the first step. From there, semi-private memberships are built around your athlete's goals and schedule. We walk through pricing and options on a quick first call, with no hard sell. We also offer sports physical therapy self pay packages or you can utilize health insurance (we're in network with most major providers).
