Hyrox Training in Portland Oregon
Prepare for Hyrox races at APEX PWR in Portland, Oregon with Dr. Kevin Le, DPT!
Hyrox has become one of the fastest growing competitive fitness events in the world, but it can be tough for athletes in Portland, OR, to find a place that has everything needed to prepare. But the wait is over! Whether you are brand new to Hyrox or have been participating in them for years, you can now fully prepare at APEX in Portland, OR!
What is Hyrox? Hyrox is a race that blends endurance, strength, and grit. You run 8×1 kilometer intervals and complete eight functional workout stations between. The event lasts 60 to over 90 minutes, can be done with a partner, and challenges the body in a unique way. This is why preparing for Hyrox requires more than random workouts.
At APEX PWR in Tigard, we have launched a full Hyrox training program designed specifically for athletes in the Portland metro. Under the direction of Dr. Kevin Le, DPT, a sports physical therapist and endurance specialist, athletes receive coaching, pacing strategy, movement refinement, and race preparation that brings together everything needed to perform well. There are also two different groups, one for those that are brand new or beginner athletes, and one for those that are more advanced and competing at a higher level.
If you are searching for Hyrox training Portland Oregon, a Hyrox gym Portland, or Hyrox coaching Portland, this is the most complete program in the area.
Why Hyrox Requires Specific Training
Hyrox is not a HIIT class and not a pure strength workout. It is an endurance event with a strength requirement. Each station lasts three to six minutes, and the entire race requires strategic pacing. Many athletes make the mistake of training too intensely every day. Others cannot train properly because their gym does not have the right equipment or layout.
To prepare for Hyrox, you need:
- Turf lanes for sled pushes and pulls
• Space for sandbag lunges, farmers carries, and burpee broad jumps
• Wall ball targets with accurate height
• SkiErgs and rowers
• The ability to string these stations together without interruption
• Coaching that understands hybrid pacing strategy
APEX PWR in Tigard, OR, offers all of this. The entire hybrid zone is built to mirror the flow of a Hyrox course. Athletes train using similar equipment, movement standards, and pacing principles they will experience on race day.
The APEX Hyrox Training Program
Guided by Dr. Kevin Le, DPT
Dr. Kevin Le, DPT combines endurance coaching, sports physical therapy, and hybrid training experience from his days competing in Ironman events to give athletes something most programs lack. He teaches athletes how to run efficiently, manage threshold pacing, move through strength stations without blowing up, and maintain technique under fatigue. This blend of PT and coaching also helps athletes avoid common Hyrox injuries.
What Kevin emphasizes:
- Running comes first. If running is a weakness, focusing on compromised running is not the priority, running skill is.
• Pacing is everything. Most athletes need to slow down.
• Strength is required, but not maximal strength.
• You must practice race flow, transitions, and technique.
• Endurance principles matter. You cannot go hard every session.
Kevin coaches both beginners and advanced athletes in a way that allows everyone to progress without injury (or overtraining)
