Colin Feldtman, Director of Performance and personal trainer at APEX PWR in Tigard, Oregon

Colin Feldtman, Director of Performance, APEX PWR.

Colin Feldtman joined APEX PWR at the end of April 2026 as our new Director of Performance. If you've been in the gym over the last couple of weeks, you've already seen him on the floor coaching, programming, and getting to know members. If you haven't met him yet, he's the new face you're seeing around APEX and across our social media. We're going to introduce him properly here, walk through his background, and explain what his arrival means for personal training and sports performance at APEX in Tigard, Oregon.

Colin is currently taking new personal training clients at APEX PWR, with strong availability for early morning sessions. The intake process starts with a personal training trial, no commitment required.

From Pro Baseball to Coaching

Colin grew up on Bainbridge Island, Washington, playing every sport he could fit into a school year before settling on baseball as his main pursuit. By high school he had earned All League and All State honors, which carried him to the University of Portland, where he lettered in baseball for five years.

After college he kept playing. He spent a season with the Adelaide Bite of the Australian Baseball League, then two more professional seasons in the Frontier League before retiring from competitive ball in 2016. The progression matters less for the highlight reel than for what came next. Athletes who've competed at that level have spent years inside structured strength and conditioning programs, year-round periodization, mobility and recovery protocols, return-to-play timelines. They understand training as a craft, not a class to attend.

The Coaching Path

Colin earned his Certified Personal Trainer credential through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in 2018. From there he worked across a range of facility types, from high-end small boutique studios to large athletic clubs. Most recently he held the Fitness Director position at Villa Sport Athletic Club in Beaverton, Oregon, where he managed personal training operations and coached members across every fitness level.

He continued building his coaching toolkit: CrossFit Level 2 in 2024, then his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The CSCS is the gold-standard certification for sports performance coaching and is required by most collegiate and professional strength staffs.

Colin's Credentials at a Glance

  • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), 2018
  • CrossFit Level 2 Coach, 2024
  • Former professional baseball player (Adelaide Bite, Frontier League)
  • University of Portland, five-year letterwinner
  • Former Fitness Director, Villa Sport Athletic Club, Beaverton OR

What Colin Brings to APEX

Colin's training background is genuinely broad. He has extensive experience in strength training, sports performance, olympic weightlifting, and speed and agility training. That breadth matters more than it sounds. Most personal trainers in the Portland metro area have one or two areas of real competency. The CSCS, the CrossFit Level 2, the NASM background, and the playing career together mean Colin can program intelligently for an executive trying to lose 20 pounds, a parent training around a lower back issue, a recreational athlete prepping for a season, or a youth athlete building their first foundation of strength.

His arrival also expands what APEX can offer in sports performance specifically. Colin's playing background and CSCS credentials strengthen the work we already do with adult athletes, weekend warriors, and youth athletes building their first foundation of strength and power.

Personal Training in Tigard with Colin

Colin is currently taking new personal training clients. He has strong availability for early morning sessions, which fits the busy professionals and parents in our area who get their training in before the workday and the school drop-off.

Personal training at APEX PWR is built around your goals, your schedule, and your starting point. The training itself is built to produce specific, measurable outcomes: lean muscle, resiliency, coordination, power, and the kind of force control that holds up under load and over time. People come in returning after years off, training around an old injury, prepping for an event, or done with cookie-cutter programming. The framework adjusts to the person. Sessions take place at our Tigard facility at 11105 SW Greenburg Rd, and the programming is connected to the rest of what we do, including nutrition, physical therapy, and objective testing.

The Personal Training Trial

Every new client starts with a trial. We don't drop people into the deep end. The trial includes:

  • A movement assessment to flag asymmetries, mobility limitations, and movement patterns we'll need to address
  • A goals conversation, where we map what you actually want from training over the next 3, 6, and 12 months
  • A sample training session so you experience the coaching style and the gym environment before any longer commitment
  • A clear recommendation, whether that's 1-on-1 personal training, our group strength training program, or some combination

There's no obligation past the trial. If we're not the right fit for what you're after, we'll tell you. Most members find the trial gives them more clarity in 90 minutes than they've gotten from years of self-directed training.

How the APEX Approach Is Different

Strength training is the foundation of what we do. It's also not the whole picture. APEX PWR was built as an integrated performance wellness and rehab facility, which means coaches, physical therapists, and a nutritionist all work in the same building, on the same client outcomes.

For personal training clients, that integration shows up in a few specific ways:

  • Nutrition coaching with our staff nutritionist Jennie Carolan, so the work in the gym is matched by what's happening at the dinner table
  • Physical therapy with our on-site team of physical therapists, for clients training around current or past injuries who need a plan that bridges rehab to performance
  • DEXA body composition scanning through our DEXA scan service, giving you objective data on lean mass, fat mass, and bone density rather than scale weight alone
  • VO2 max testing for cardiovascular fitness benchmarking and zone-based programming
  • VALD force plate testing measuring power production, force control, reactive strength, balance, and jump and deadlift performance. The body loses the ability to produce and absorb force without consistent training, and VALD gives us the metrics to see exactly where you stand and how you progress.

Most personal training studios have a coach and a set of dumbbells. APEX gives you a coach plus a clinical team plus the same testing technology used by professional sports organizations. The integrated model is what keeps members training with us for years rather than months.

Off the Floor

Outside of coaching, Colin is currently building a house in St. Paul, Oregon with his wife Katlyn and their two daughters, Hughes (3) and Monroe (1.5). When he's not at the gym or with his family, he's usually golfing, playing music, or doing some combination of the two with friends.

The family piece matters because much of our membership is parents and busy professionals. Colin coaches from inside that same season of life. He knows what 5 a.m. before the kids wake up actually feels like, because that's the same window he protects for his own training.
