The testing trusted by the pros, now for your soccer player.
APEX PWR uses the same VALD technology as pro and college soccer programs to test, train and develop youth and high-school players across the Portland metro. Speed, strength, soccer injury prevention and ACL return-to-play, all under one roof in Tigard.
The same VALD technology trusted across soccer's biggest leagues
Your athlete can access the same equipment used by clubs in:
APEX PWR is an independent VALD technology user. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the leagues or teams referenced; they illustrate where VALD testing technology is used and normative data available to compare your athlete when needed.
Why it matters for soccer
The game is won in the details.
Acceleration, strength, power and change of direction are attributes that help soccer athletes stand out. Equally important for soccer players is staying on the field and free from injury. Every one of those qualities can be measured, and trained, at our Tigard facility serving the Portland area.
Speed & acceleration
First-step quickness and top-end speed decide who reaches the ball first. We clock both on VALD speed gates.
Change of direction
Cut, plant, accelerate, repeat. Force production & absorption are aspects we measure to evaluate how your athlete brakes & changes direction
Hamstring & groin
The most common soft-tissue injuries in soccer. We screen strength and left-to-right balance before they become strains.
ACL & landing
Soccer's pivots and decelerations make it a high ACL-risk sport. How a knee absorbs and controls landing is trainable and testable.
Soccer speed training, measured
Soccer speed training built on real numbers.
We measure acceleration and top speed on VALD speed gates, then train linear speed and change-of-direction, the qualities that create separation. The full VALD suite lives in one 10,000 sq ft facility with turf, alongside our physical therapy team.
Speed Gates
Acceleration, top speed and split times, measured to the hundredth of a second.
Force Plates
How much force each leg produces, brakes and absorbs through a jump and landing.
Strength & balance
Hip, groin and hamstring strength and left-to-right balance, screened in minutes.
Targeted strength
Joint and muscle strength testing for precise, objective milestones.
Soccer training in Portland
Soccer speed & strength training, year-round.
The assessment is where we start, not where we stop. From the results, your athlete trains with our coaches in small semi-private groups on a plan built from their own numbers. Off-season we build the foundation. In-season we maintain it and manage load so they stay fast and healthy through the schedule. We retest each quarter so progress shows up in real numbers, then adjust as your athlete develops.
Off-season: build
Heavier strength and power blocks plus top-end speed and change-of-direction work to raise the ceiling before the season starts.
In-season: maintain
Lower-volume speed and strength maintenance with load management, so your athlete stays fast, fresh and available all season.
Speed training
Acceleration, top speed and change-of-direction, trained against the numbers from your athlete's speed-gate testing.
Strength training
Age and development appropriate strength and power, coached in a semi-private setting and progressed as your athlete grows.
Training starts with a Sports Science Assessment so we build the right plan from real data.
Hamstring and groin strains and ACL tears derail soccer seasons. We screen strength and left-to-right balance on the VALD equipment, assess how each leg absorbs landing on the force plates, and build the strength and movement that protects your athlete. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, prevention is in our DNA and we have the data to highlight normal standards for your soccer athlete.
01
Book a call
We talk about your athlete, their sport, their season and what you want to build.
02
Sports Science Assessment
The first of two sessions: Testing with VALD equipment that's sport and athlete specific to develop objective markers
03
Experience the training
The second of two sessions: A structured series of foundational strength movements to evaluate experience level, movement quality, and readiness to load.
04
Consultation
We walk through the results, your athlete's custom plan, and the options for continued training and/or physical therapy.
05
Train, retest, progress
Execute the plan and retest quarterly. Gains show up in real numbers, not guesses.
The Sports Science Assessment is the first step. From there, semi-private memberships are built around your athlete's goals and schedule, with no hard sell.
ACL tear prevention & return-to-play
ACL tear prevention for soccer, and a confident return.
Soccer's cutting and deceleration make it one of the highest ACL-risk sports. We test and measure strength, jumping, and landing mechanics that help evaluate risk of ACL tear on the field. We use this data to inform customized training plans. If an athlete has sustained an ALC tear, throughout their rehab journey, we have objective milestones, not just a date on the calendar. Your athlete returns when the numbers say they are ready.
Families across Portland, Tigard and Beaverton train at APEX because the data, the coaching and the physical therapy live in the same place, on the same systems the world's best clubs trust. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, we prioritize age & development appropriate strength training and enhancing movement quality for soccer players ages 8 to 18.
Where can my soccer player get tested in Portland?
At APEX PWR in Tigard, minutes from Portland and Beaverton. Every athlete starts with a Sports Science Assessment on VALD force plates and speed gates, the same technology used across pro and college soccer, with a full movement and strength evaluation. We work with players ages 8 to 18.
How do you help with soccer injury prevention and ACL tears?
Soccer is a high ACL-risk sport because of its constant cutting, deceleration and jumping. We screen hamstring and groin strength and left-to-right balance using VALD technology, assess how each leg absorbs and controls landing on the force plates, then use the data to inform speed & strength training plans. These are modifiable risk factors, which is why testing and targeted training matter.
Do you offer soccer speed training in Portland?
Yes. We measure acceleration and top speed on VALD speed gates, then train both linear speed and change-of-direction, the qualities that create separation on the pitch. You get objective numbers to chase and re-test against.
Do you offer strength training for soccer players?
Yes, ongoing training is the core of what we do. After the assessment, your athlete trains in small semi-private groups on a plan built from their numbers, off-season to build and in-season to maintain, with quarterly retesting. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, we prioritize age & development appropriate strength training for athletes 8 to 18, and our physical therapy team carries that same strength-first approach through any injury or post-surgical rehab.
How does pricing work?
The Sports Science Assessment is the first step. From there, semi-private memberships are built around your athlete's goals and schedule, walked through in a consultation with no hard sell. We also offer sports physical therapy self pay packages or you can utilize health insurance (we're in network with most major providers).
