Why it matters for volleyball

The game is won in the details.

Volleyball is won above the net and decided by who lands safely. Every one of those qualities can be measured, and trained, at our Tigard facility serving the Portland area.

Vertical jump & approach

Hitting and blocking live above the net. We measure jump height and power on VALD force plates.

Reactive strength

Quick, repeated jumps win rallies. We test reactive strength on drop and single-leg jumps.

Landing & ACL

How a player absorbs landing drives knee safety, especially for female athletes. We test it directly.

Shoulder & hip

Overhead hitting loads the shoulder. We screen shoulder and hip strength and balance to keep it healthy.

Vertical jump & power, measured

Volleyball vertical jump, on real numbers.

We measure jump height and reactive strength on VALD force plates, the core of volleyball performance, plus change-of-direction on the speed gates. The full VALD suite lives in one 10,000 sq ft facility, alongside our physical therapy team.

Speed Gates

Acceleration, top speed and split times, measured to the hundredth of a second.

Force Plates

How much force each leg produces, brakes and absorbs through a jump and landing.

Strength & balance

Hip, groin and hamstring strength and left-to-right balance, screened in minutes.

Targeted strength

Joint and muscle strength testing for precise, objective milestones.

Volleyball training in Portland

Volleyball speed & strength training, year-round.

The assessment is where we start, not where we stop. From the results, your athlete trains with our coaches in small semi-private groups on a plan built from their own numbers. Off-season we build the foundation. In-season we maintain it and manage load so they stay fast and healthy through the schedule. We retest each quarter so progress shows up in real numbers, then adjust as your athlete develops.

Off-season: build

Jump, reactive strength and approach-power blocks to add inches to the attack and block before the season.

In-season: maintain

Jump and strength maintenance with landing control and load management across long tournament weekends.

Jump & movement

Approach footwork, change-of-direction and reactive jumping, coached off the numbers from your athlete's testing.

Strength training

Shoulder, hip and single-leg strength that protects the knee and the overhead arm through a long season.

Training starts with a Sports Science Assessment so we build the right plan from real data.

Volleyball injury prevention in Portland

Get ahead of volleyball injuries.

Jumper's knee, ankle sprains, ACL tears and overhead shoulder issues derail volleyball seasons. We screen knee, hip and shoulder strength and balance on VALD equipment, assess how each leg absorbs landing on the force plates, and build the control that protects your athlete. As a physical therapy clinic at our core, prevention is in our DNA and we have the data to highlight normal standards for your volleyball athlete.

ACL tear prevention & return-to-play

ACL tear prevention for volleyball, and a confident return.

Volleyball's repeated jumping and landing put the knee at risk, especially for female athletes. We test the strength and landing mechanics that lower that risk, and after an injury we map return-to-play to objective milestones on the force plates, not just a date on the calendar. Your athlete returns when the numbers say they are ready.

Frequently asked questions.

Where can my volleyball player get tested in Portland?

At APEX PWR in Tigard, minutes from Portland and Beaverton. Every athlete starts with a Sports Science Assessment on VALD force plates and speed gates, the same jump-testing technology used across pro and college programs, plus a full movement and strength evaluation. We work with players ages 8 to 18.

How do you measure and train vertical jump for volleyball?

We test countermovement jump height, power and reactive strength on VALD force plates, then build a plan to improve the qualities that drive your approach and block jump, and re-test to prove it.

How do you help with volleyball injury prevention and ACL tears?

Volleyball's repeated jumping and landing load the knees and ankles, and female athletes face higher ACL risk. We screen knee, hip and shoulder strength and balance, assess landing on the force plates, and build the control that lowers injury risk.

Do you help with the overhead shoulder?

Yes. Hitting and serving load the shoulder. We screen shoulder strength and balance on VALD equipment and build the strength that keeps it healthy through a season.

How does pricing work?

The Sports Science Assessment is the first step. From there, semi-private memberships are built around your athlete's goals and schedule. We walk through pricing and options on a quick first call, with no hard sell. We also offer sports physical therapy self pay packages or you can utilize health insurance (we're in network with most major providers).
