What’s the Plan After Physical Therapy

What’s the Plan After Physical Therapy

Finishing physical therapy is a huge milestone, but it’s not the end of your journey—it’s the beginning of building lasting strength, mobility, and confidence. Transitioning from rehab to fitness requires a thoughtful approach to maintain the progress you’ve made and continue improving your overall health.

Over our 10 year history of helping athletes and active adults bounce back from injury or surgery, we’ve developed partnerships with other medical professionals in the area, one of them being with Dr. Robert Sandmeier of The Portland Clinic. We sat down for an interview with him and our sports physical therapy team to discuss a variety of topics, but here’s a 23 second clip you won’t want to miss:

At Apex PWR, we understand the importance of post-rehab success. That’s why we’ve designed three specialized pathways to help you seamlessly transition from physical therapy into a sustainable strength and mobility program. Whether you prefer group classes, independent fitness coaching, or personalized one-on-one training, we have a solution tailored to your goals and lifestyle.

If you’re an athlete, ages 8-18, we’ve got you covered, too!

Why Continue Training After Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy focuses on restoring mobility, strength, and function after injury or surgery. However, without consistent follow-up training, it’s easy to lose those gains. A structured strength and mobility program post-rehab helps:

  • Reduce the risk of re-injury.
  • Build a strong foundation for daily activities and athletic performance.
  • Improve confidence and independence in movement.

The APEX PWR Post-Rehab Pathways

1A. Adult Group Classes

If you thrive in a community setting, our adult group classes are an excellent way to maintain your momentum post-rehab.

  • Strength Training: Target key muscle groups to build stability, endurance, and power.
  • HIIT-Style Cardio: Improve cardiovascular health while challenging your stamina and agility.
  • Time-Efficient Workouts: Designed to fit into your busy schedule without compromising results.

These classes offer a dynamic environment where you can continue to grow and stay motivated while working alongside like-minded individuals.

1B. Youth Athlete Speed & Strength Training

Our facility is designed with athletes in mind to help them bounce back from injury and then continue their training as they return to sport – but the journey doesn’t end! We have different group training programs for youth athletes in any sport (ages 8-18) to help build a strong and wide athletic foundation all year long. We have different age groups the workout at different times – Futures, Stars and Elite. Each of these programs focuses on what’s listed below but is modified differently for the age group. The Elite program is for varsity caliber athletes, is modeled after a college training program and is tailored to be sport specific.

  • Strength Training: Above all, a consistent strength training program is proven to reduce the risk of overuse injuries that are commonly experienced in single sport, year-round athletes..
  • Speed Training: One of the top attributes in any sport is speed. Our speed training drills work hand in hand with our strength training to develop a faster, more agile and explosive athlete.
  • Injury Prevention: Having a top tier sports physical therapy team in the house to collaborate on the development of the youth athlete training program makes for a well rounded approach to help set our athletes up for success and decrease their risk of injury.

These workouts offer a dynamic environment where you can continue to develop and stay motivated while working alongside other athletes who have similar goals.

2. Fitness Coaching

For those who prefer working independently with a clear plan, our fitness coaching service provides:

  • Customized Programming: Created specifically for your goals and needs, whether you’re at an Apex PWR facility or your local gym.
  • Flexibility: Execute your program on your own schedule while receiving professional guidance.
  • Accountability: Check-ins with your coach to ensure you’re progressing and staying consistent.

Fitness coaching is ideal for individuals who enjoy autonomy but want the reassurance of expert support and oversight.

3. Personal Training

For a completely tailored experience, personal training offers both athletes and adults:

  • One-on-One Coaching: Work directly with a trainer to master form, build strength, and gain confidence.
  • Individualized Plans: Focus on your unique needs and goals, with adjustments made as you progress.
  • Collaborative Care: Your personal trainer and physical therapist work together to ensure your program aligns with your recovery journey.

Personal training is perfect for those who value personalized attention and want to continue building strength and mobility in a safe and supportive environment.
